In 1968…Led Zeppelin played their first ever gig in Canada at Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum, supporting Vanilla Fudge and the MC5.
In 1968…The Miami Festival kicked off, drawing 100-thousand people over its three days. The line-up included Jose Feliciano, Procol Harum and Fleetwood Mac. It was the first major rock festival held on the east coast.
In 1968…The Doors’ “Touch Me” was released.
In 1971…Sha Na Na performed at Carnegie Hall. The MC
for the event was The Who’s Keith Moon.
In 1972…Mick and Bianca Jagger arrived in Managua, Nicaragua to search for Bianca’s mother in the wake of an earthquake that had devastated the city. They brought medical supplies with them. Bianca’s mother was eventually found safe and well.
In 1975…At a gun show in Spokane, Washington, guest Ted Nugent had a gun pulled on him. The assailant was wrestled to the ground by the audience and security guards. The man was later charged with “intimidating with a weapon.”
In 1979…At the third of Paul McCartney’s concerts for Kampuchea in London, The Who, The Pretenders and The Specials performed.
In 1983…Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys drowned while swimming near his boat in the harbor at Marina del Rey, California.
In 1992…Paul Simon and Edie Brickell became the proud parents of Adrian Edward Simon.
