NICK MASON’S FAVORITE PINK FLOYD ALBUM
Posted: Jun 28, 2011
Pink Floyd and EMI Music plan to put out both previously released and unreleased music from the band during a campaign called Why Pink Floyd. Over the next nine months, “Experience Editions” of all of the group’s 14 records will come out featuring the original album and a second disc of related content from that effort. With so many great albums we asked drummer Nick Mason which his favorite is.
“There are different elements to different albums. So Darkside is always there because it’s such a complete thing. The Wall is great but it’s quite sprawling in comparison. There’s something quite nice about the way that Darkside – there’s nothing that goes on for too long. Occasionally, there are albums that I think ‘God, if I hear another repeat of that chorus, I’ll go mad.’”
The legendary rocker went on to zero in on one favorite album in particular.
“I have a very soft spot for Saucerful of Secrets because, first of all, I like some of the tracks on it, full stop, but also because I think that’s the signpost of where we were actually going to go, even though the two albums that followed it were completely different and don’t go there but I see a sort of relationship between Saucer, which is sort of letting go of [singer] Syd [Barrett] and Meddle, which sort of leads on, particularly leads on to Wish You Were Here, I think.”
All the albums will also be available as “Immersion Box Sets” that boast CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and memorabilia. The first re-release is Dark Side of the Moon, which comes out in various packages on September 26th. Learn more at PinkFloyd.com.
