GRACE SLICK TALKS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ALCOHOL

Posted: Oct 28, 2011

On Sunday, former Jefferson Airplane singer Grace Slick turns 72 years old.  During those years, she has been through a lot, including some arrests stemming from having too much to drink.  Those experiences helped the rocker decide that certain drugs are far less dangerous than alcohol, as she explained to us.

“Alcohol is the most destructive of any of the drugs and it’s legal. The only reason heroin and cocaine and all those things are destructive is because they’re illegal and you get in trouble buying it and selling it.  But alcohol is abrasive so people stab each other and rob things and get in automobile accidents and every other damn thing because it’s not a drug that maintains a pleasant mood.  You have about a good hour and then you start getting either stupid or nasty.  And I like it.  I like alcohol fine, I’m an alcoholic, I like it fine, but that isn’t to say that it isn’t a very destructive drug.”

These days, Grace spends her time painting.  You can see some of her work at AreaArt.com.
