In 2001…Jimmy Buffett was ordered by NBA referee Joe Forte to give up his courtside seat at a Miami Heat game due to his use of profanity. Buffett was escorted to a seat farther from the court.

In 2002…Stevie Wonder sang “Happy Birthday” to Rosa Parks on her 89^th birthday at the premiere of the made-for-TV movie, Ride to Freedom: The Rosa Parks Story.

In 2004…Art Garfunkel pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in Hurley, New York. He was fined 200 dollars. The singer was charged after police pulled his limousine over for speeding in January.

In 2004…Oasis‘ Noel Gallagher was questioned by U-K police after a photograph was published showing the “Wonderwall” songwriter trespassing on a railway line.

In 2004…Janet Jackson was dropped from the line-up of the GRAMMY Awards after her Super Bowl breast-baring incident.

In 1958…The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) formed a New York chapter. NARAS is best known for staging the annual GRAMMY Awards.

In 1967…British tabloid News of the World ran the story, Pop Stars and Drugs – Facts that Will Shock You.  Among the “revelations”:  Pete Townshend, Ginger Baker and The Moody Blues had all attended L-S-D parties; Mick Jagger admitted to using L-S-D, and once took Benzedrine. Jagger denied the story and threatened to sue for libel. It later transpired the reporter got his facts by eavesdropping on Brian Jones in a London disco thinking he was Jagger. The hysteria whipped up by the story, however, led to a police raid on Keith Richards’ home the next week.

In 1989…Metallica‘s concert at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas, was broadcast nationally via the Z-Rock Radio Network.

In 1998…Tim Kelly of Slaughter died after a being injured in an auto accident in Arizona. He was 34.

In 2006…Busta Rhymes‘ bodyguard was shot to death after gunfire was heard during a Brooklyn video shoot for his boss’ new single “Touch It.” Israel Ramirez was 29.

In 2006…The Rolling Stones performed during the halftime show at Super Bowl XL. However, TV producers used a “dump button” to edit salacious lyrics from their songs “Start Me Up” and “Rough Justice.”
